摘　　要：A Sunrise on the Veld is written by British writer Doris Lessing.The settings play an important rolein this “silent” story.This paper tries to explore the uses of settings in the short story from two aspects:the setting in the boy’s house and the dying process of the buck in order to reveal their contribution to thetheme.
