摘　　要：《缮写员巴特比--华尔街的一个故事》是美国著名小说家赫曼·麦尔维尔发表的一篇重要的具有象征意义的短篇小说。它反映了社会理性和非理性之间的冲突并以非理性的失败而告终。该作品对理性与非理性这对二元对立所包含的循规蹈矩和我行我素的对立的理解是自相矛盾的。由此产生的对处于弱势地位的非理性的矛盾心理解构了作品原有的思想主题.表现了作者在更大程度上对非理性的同情和理解。Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Merville, is a short story with symbolic significance. The story reveals a conflict between rationality and irrationality or a binary opposition of conformity and non-conformity. The story ends with the triumph of the former over the latter. A deconstructive reading of the story, indicates the author's ambivalent attitude towards this binary opposition. This attitude deconstructs the original theme of the story and displays his sympathy for and understanding of irrationality to great extent.
