摘　　要：本文从宏观背景、微观背景和厄普代克的代表作三个角度探讨了其深刻的宗教观。厄普代克认为:1)上帝只不过是一个对人世不闻不问的"异类";2)宗教活动是必要的,人们需要宗教的慰藉;3)性是"新宗教"。厄普代克在作品中对性做了大量临床式的描述,其目的是试图把性行为升华到神圣的高度、表达对生命的尊重与关怀。Updike s religion has been discussed from the following aspects:1) God is the "other" one utterly indifferent to human beings;2)religious activities are necessary for the clays in urgent need for comfort;3) sex is a new religion which provides ultimate respect and solicitude for life of human beings.In a nutshell,man should be "freed from certain secular illusions and monochromatic tyrannies of hopeful thought" to enjoy sex and life while showing deep gratitude for God.
