摘　　要：政教分离是美国的立国原则,但只是指宗教机构与政府机构的分离,决不是指宗教与社会和政治的分离。本文以鸦片战争期间美国传教士就鸦片贸易和不平等条约签订中所发挥的作用进行论述,以期阐释宗教对美国政治的影响。Separation of Church and State is a basic principle for the foundation of the United States. However, it only means the separation of religious organizations and government agencies, not the separation of religion from society and politics. This paper is a discussion on the roles played by US missionaries in China during the Opium War and how they affected the signing of unequal treaties, thus showing the influence of religion on US politics.
