However, political changes have so far been limited and at times reversed. The dynamic of political reforms stems from both internal and external factors including the crisis of legitimacy, the pressure of social and economic changes, and the lash of international democratization waves. The reversals in some countries indicate that there are many barriers against the trend of democratization and liberalization in the Muslim world. Further research will focus on this issue.
