摘　　要：八届人大四次会议通过的《中华人民共和国国民经济和社会发展“九五”计划和2010年远景目标纲要》中明确指出:“农村养老以家庭保险为主,坚持政府引导与农民自愿,发展多种形式的养老保险。大力发展企业补充养老和个人储蓄养老保险。”这是我国今后一个相当长时期内农村养老保险的指导方针。China is experiencing a rapid ageing of population, Which will become the 'old' type at the start of the 2Ist century. The elderly population will comprise onefourth of the total population of China by the mid-21st century. Only child families, particularly the families with single daughters and those with two daughters, are increasing, and a 'four-Two-One' family structure is taking shape. Young and adult labors in rural areas are increasingly moving away from their old parents into the cities, leaving the rural families more and more different to support the elderly, and 'Elderly Villages' are emerging.On the other hand, the rural reform and the contract responsibility system have dissolved the rural social security system originally attached to the rural collective economy. Life becomes increasingly unsecurable in rural areas for the old people who have no children to rely on, are unable to work, and have no income resources.China has a fine tradition of respecting and supporting the elderly for thousands of Years, but how long and to what extent will be the traditon surviving in the future?How long can the rural old family support be sustained? How to deal with the old support problem in rural areas? Four scholars contributed to this topic have expressed their views and concerns.
