Exciting force recognition is the basis and important segment of vibration control in internal combustion engine. To ascertain the effect of the measurement errors of the overall system mass, rotational inertia, stiffness, damp, center of mass etc. on the accuracy of exciting force recognition, numerical simulation has been conducted and a series of temporal signals have been obtained. Meanwhile, a program has been developed to abstract exciting forces and exciting torques from the temporal signals according to the theory of internal combustion engine dynamics. Moreover, based on the error range, defined either empirically or experimentally, the effect of testing parametric errors on the recognition accuracy of exciting forces has been assessed in terms of a series of working conditions. The results showed that to ensure the recognition errors of the second order reciprocating inertia force and torque, the third order and sixth order overturn torque to be within 5%,the measurement errors of mass, rotational inertia, stiffness should be within ± 4. 27%, ± 4%, ± 20%,respectively. In addition, the damping coefficient should be kept within 0. 075 ~ 0. 125 and the absolute error of the center of mass position should be within ± 40 mm.
