摘　　要：出版于1963年的第一部小说《夏日鸟笼》开启了玛格丽塔·德拉布尔的写作生涯。德拉布尔的第一个女主人公萨拉·贝内特是牛津毕业的高材生,却没有理想的工作。婚姻和职业的两难选择深深地困扰着知识女性,她们找不到自身的定位和身份。本文分析了萨拉面对的困境和对自己周围女性的观察反思来追寻自身身份的过程,指出女性身份诉求是没有终点的。A Summer Bird- cage,Margaret Drabble's first novel published in 1963,has started her writing career. Sarah Bennett,the first Drabble's heroine,is just out of college with highest honors and no career. What to do is a hard decision to make. It is the permanent question left for educated women to define and identify themselves when they are confronted with marriage and career. This article analyzes the predicament Sarah encounters and the process in which she searches her identity from the perception of her relatives and her acquaintance. The search of female identity is an endless road.
