摘　　要：《白象似的群山》是海明威的一个短小的故事。这篇短文的一个特点是它主要是由男主人公和女主人公的几段对话组成。他们讨论是否要去做流产手术的过程是他们交际失败的过程。本文基于拉可夫和坦能关于两性语言差异的理论,聚焦于交际目的、交际内容、交际风格的差异分析他们跨性别交际失误的原因。'Hills like white Elephant'is a short story written by Ernest Hemingway. One of its distinctive features is that it mainly consists of dialogues between a man and a woman. The process of their discussing on whether to have an abortion is a process of unsuccessful communication. This paper,based on Lakoff and Tannen's theories concerning gender- linked language differences,analyzes the causes of their cross- gender miscommunication,focusing on the differences in terms of communication purposes,contents and styles of communicating.
