摘　　要：刘靖华:随着冷战的终结和20世纪的即将故去,世界似乎正困厄于十字路口:一方面,西方发达国家在经济萧条和衰退中苦熬,经济的零增长或负增长折射出一个空前的"政治低落期":欧洲指责美国为了自我利益弃欧不顾、欧美各自组成了颇具排他性的区域利益集团、美日摩擦时趋白炽,冷战时代的"西方"意识已低迷不振;另方面,不发达国家或择美欧体制而从之,或取原教旨主义,或固守旧制而与美欧抗衡,或睿智如中国者。Islamism is primarily meant against colonialim, Oceidentalism and the western hegemony, and it is a Moslem way of response against the thrust from the west. It appeals to the traditional ideological weapons, totally identifying with the traditional value, and unconditionally confirming the authenticity of its own cultural value. It pursues social justice but resists modern civilization; it fights 'tyranny' while itself bearing a degree of despotism; it fails to rationally seek and get hold of the good chances for development within the modern economic system, but rather chooses to sentimentally reject secular culture and modernity,The most crucial question is how Islamism would link with modernization. Islamism has brought great anxiety and uneasiness to the U.S. and the west,which are presently exerting more efforts to deal with the so-called threat of 'the dangerous arc of Islam', and to contain the momentum of the religious Fundementalism. This renders it very unfavourablly for the Moslem countries in their choice of roads of development in the coming 21st century. It is our expectation that the Moslem world could on the one hand rationally review its own traditional civilization, and on the other, cater to the modern civilization with broad-mindedness and eventually find out its own road of development.
