摘　　要：明清之际大批欧洲耶稣会士来华,是中西文化交流史上的一件大事,历来为国外学者所重视,研究成果颇多。我国解放前,陈垣、陈受颐、阎宗临等学界名流也多有论著。1957年,朱谦之先生任教北大时,着手修改他于1940年出版的旧作《中国思想对于欧洲文化的影响》,将此书的“前论”作为讲义印发,文中有关耶稣会士的论述引起了学界的注意。在此后的两三年间,《新建设》、《哲学研究》等刊物发表了一批文章,由于众所周知的原因,针对朱先生认为耶稣会士在一定程度上对中国文化作出了贡献的观点,进行了严厉的批判,来华耶稣会士被定性为“西方殖民者配合其军事、政治、经济侵略的一支先遣队。”It is undeniable that European Jesuits came in China under a background of western countries' colonial expansion to the Far-East. Before the 19th Century, their mission was confined to evangelizing Chinese people, though they did not forget to serve their respective countries' interests. Their proselytization,their relationship with Chinese literates and their service to Court were not nuisible to the sovereignty of China,thus these activities can not be said to be a cultural aggression. Their accommodation to Chinese culture and the Rites Controversy made them highly contributive to the mutual understanding between China and Europe.
