Objective To study the current situation of depression and anxiety in type 2 diabetes patients in community, and investigate the effects of health education to depression and anxiety symptoms and glucose metabolism. Methods 106 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly selected in 2 communities of Shapingba district in Chongqing, and divided them randomly into observation group and control group. All the subjects were assessed by the Zung's self-rating depression scale(SDS),the Zung's self-rating anxiety scale(SAS) and the situation of glucose metabolism before and after the 3 months treatments. The assessments were taken for statistic analyses and comparisons. Results Significant differences have been found between the both two groups and the Norm. After the treatments, the depression and anxiety have been significantly reduced in observation group, but not in control group. The glucose metabolism significantly reduced in both two groups.when compared with control group, the observation group reduced more. Conclusions Health education can improve the depression and anxiety symptoms and glucose metabolism in type 2 diabetes patients, and should be generalized in control and prevention of diabetes in community.
