Photorefractivity of Nematic Liquid Crystals

摘　　要：A theoretical treatment of photo-refractive effect and experimental verifications of the associated nonlinear optical processes in the nematic phase of liquid crystals were presented. The effect is attributed to the dc space charge fields induced by the photocharges which may come from the photoionization impurities. The phenomenon was analyzed and a theoretical model of photorefractivity in nematic liquid crystals was developed. New experimental results were found to be in good agreement with the theory.
