Ligand Substituent Electronic Effect in Ternary Complexes—— Systems of Zn2+(Cd2+)-bipy(phen)-substituted Salicylic Acid System

摘  要:Research has been done on the cooperating effect of π electronic transformation between the ligands in some transition metal ternary complexes. The effect can remarkably affect the stability of ternary complexes. For example, when O^-, O^- ligands such as pyrocatechol or oxalate and a bidentate aromatic amine (2, 2’-bipyridyl,Research has been done on the cooperating effect of pi electronic transformation between the ligands in some transition metal ternary [1-3]. The effect can remarkably complexes[1-6]. The effect can remarkably affect the stability of ternary complexes. For example, when O-, O- ligands such as pyrocatechol or oxalate and a bidentate aromatic amine (2,2'-bipyridyl, 1, 10-phenanthroline), coordinate simultaneously at the transition metal ion, they can form a kind of stable ternary complexes, which shows a strong pi electronic cooperating effect[4-6]. The donor ability of the O-, O- ligand and pi- acceptor ability of the aromatic amine ligand should be the important factors to decide the stability of the ternary complexes. In this note, the study results of the system are provided: zinc (II) and cadmium(II) are center ions; the primary ligand (A) is 2, 2'-bipyridyl (bipy) or 1, 10-phenanthroline (phen) and the secondary ligand (B) is salicylic acid (sali), 5-bromosalicylic acid (brom), 5-sulfosalicylic acid (sulf), 3, 5-dinitrosalicylic acid (dini). The results indicate that the relationship between the stability of complexes and the base strength of substituted salicylic acid ligands is in a straight line in both binary complexes and ternary complexes. We have also found that the ligand substituent-inductive effect (electronic effect) of salicylic acid system can exert an important effect on the stability of ternary complexes.
