摘　　要：新兴中产阶级对绅士身份的渴慕使18、19世纪英国小说出现了旨在宣扬中产阶级价值观的新绅士人物具象。中产阶级作家试图以品德高尚的绅士人物形象僭越原先基于出身的贵族绅士标准,从而引发了两大阶级的意识形态论战和文化对话。最后中产阶级与土地贵族对道德改良达成共识,结成新的意识形态同盟。Underlying the creation of a new type of gentleman embodying the values of the middle class in the 18^(th)and 19^(th)English fiction,is that class's desire for the name of Gentleman.As the middle class writers introduced their imagination of gentleman to challenge the landed nobility's privileged title based on birth,in the name of virtue,the gentleman characters became a symbolic site,where the two classes launched their debates and talks until they agreed upon the necessity of a moral reformation for both,and a new ideological alliance.
