摘　　要：本文是对英国著名汉学家罗尔·斯德克斯的研究。在文献分析和访谈的基础上,本文从四个层面对罗尔·斯德克斯对于中国研究本身的看法、对中国古代饮食文化、动物文化、贫富观和生态观的研究进行了较为系统的探讨,发现罗尔·斯德克斯的中国研究观具有全面辩证的特点,他的研究成果是对中国古代物质文化和精神文化之关系的研究,深刻揭示了早期中国特别是战国和秦汉时期经典文本中所蕴含的哲学思想和政治倾向,从一个侧面展示了英国学术界对于古代中国文化、哲学、政治、宗教和经济思想的认识和理解。This essay is devoted to a study of Roel Sterckx, an outstanding scholar in China Studies in the UK. Based on a systematic analysis of the important academic literature and an interview, the essay explores his opinions and contributions in the four aspects including his view of China Studies, the early Chinese food, animals, poverty and treasure, and ecology. It concludes that Roel Sterckx has displayed the opinion of a combination of complete and dialectic methodology in China Studies, and his research is also a combination of the material culture and spiritual culture in early Chinese history and the relationship between them. His research findings reveal the philosophical thought and political tendency embedded in the canonical texts in early China especially in the Warring States, Qin and Han Dynasties and represent the understanding of the culture, philosophy, polity, religion and economy of the ancient China in the British academic circles.
