Ltd. won 4.57% market share and ranked No. 7 in domestic automobile sales during the first four months of this year, The company is a sole Chinese automobile maker without any foreign investment among the Top 10 automobile makers in China. Chery sold its first car in 2000 and its sales revenue was 2.4 billion yuan in 2001. After two years the revenue reached 8.2 billion yuan and Chery sold 90,367 cars in 2003. Chery is very unique compared with other Chinese car makers. It persists in R&D with the initiative in its own hands and intends to master core technologies of auto manufacture. Other than numerous auto makers in China, which manufacture one type of cars for many years, Chery released three new types of cars in less than three years, its QQ car became a star in the last year's auto market. The QQ car set a milestone for R&D of cars in China and overstepped the design intention of seeking inexpensive cars, What's more, Chery signed an export contract with an Iranian car maker, SKT, in 2003. Chery transfers its technology and plant design to SKT to build a plant with an annual capacity of 30,000 cars in northeastern Iran. China's car market becomes more and more acute, Chery puts its stakes on self-reliant R&D of new types of cars, gear boxes, molds and engines of various capacities. If Chery wins, it will become Toyota of China.
