摘　　要：本文认为低调陈述从本质上讲是一种认知活动 ,语言中的低调陈述离不开认知这个大的背景 ,低调陈述是人类模糊性思维与认知活动的结果与工具 ;低调陈述是一种以词或句子为焦点 ,以语境为框架的语用现象 ,语境是确认和理解低调陈述的重要依据 ;低调陈述是一种认知语法单位 ,它是语用因素习惯化、语法化的重要表现形式之一 ;低调陈述最重要的语义特征包括 :礼貌性 ,矛盾性 ,临时性 。Understatement is basically a cognitive phenomenon. Linguistic understatement, which occurs on various linguistic levels and takes words or sentences as its 'focus' and context as its 'frame', is the result of and tools for human vague cognition. Whether an understatement has occurred and how it should be interpreted is entirely dependent on context. The most important semantic features of understatement include: literal contradiction, temporariness, politeness, fuzziness.
