摘　　要：索尔·贝娄小说富有现代性意蕴。他关注个体生命在现代文明中的生存状态。他对生命的探询是现代的反 应和存在的自觉。小说主人公对生命的存在自我负责,在寻求自我的过程中自由选择;为确证生命存在的意义,鼓 足勇气挺身反抗来自客观世界的沉重压力。There're full of modernity implications in Saul Bellow's novels. He pays attention to individual lives and their living conditions in modern civilization; His polling to lives is a kind of reaction of modern times and consciousness of existence. The dramatic personae in novels take self-responsibility into life's being and make choice at liberty during the process of seeking one selves; To corroborate the meaning of life being,they straighten their back and screw up their courage to resist the heaviest pressure from the objective world.
