Objective: To investigate the effects of exposing rabbits with hypercholesterolemic feed to low intensity electromagnetic fields(EMFs) on levels of blood lipid. Methods: By using 15 Hz pulsed low intensity EMFs (10×10-4 T), Examiner-blinded randomized controlled experiments were conducted. 24 female white big ear rabbits were randomly divided into three groups(control group, magnetic group and hyperlipid group). Control group was fed with normal diet and other groups were fed with hypercholesterolemic diet, thereinto. Magnetic group were fed in EMFs(10 h/d). After eight weeks, levels of blood lipid were examined, such as serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein (HDL), etc. Result: Compared with control group, the levels of blood lipid of hyperlipid group showed statistically significant differences (P <0.01). Compared with hyperlipid group, the serum total cholesterol and triglyceride values evidently decreased (P <0.01). On the contrary, HDL value obviously increased (P <0.01). Conclusion: Low intensity pulsed EMFs is effective in improving the levels of blood lipid. It is favorable to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
