也谈胡光墉的评价问题

摘　　要：徐明德教授仅根据程灶女的一句口碑资料即断言胡光墉曾是安徽绩溪人 ,是不可靠的。胡光墉虽参与创办福州船政局 ,但很快就离开了 ,他办理其它涉洋事务只是按照左宗棠的指令行事的 ,所以不能称为“洋务运动的先驱者”。胡光墉从事慈善活动也有取悦于当权者、为形势所迫、为自己捞取政治资本等情况。徐教授对一些基本史实的叙述多不够确切 。It is unreliable that Hu Guangyong was from Jixi, Anhui affirmed by Professor Xu Mingde only according to the word of Cheng Zaonu. Hu Guangyong though participated in setting up Fuzhou Shipyard yet left immediately. He handled other foreign affairs following the instructions of Zuo Zongtang, therefore he couldn’t be seen as one of the pioneers of the Modernization Movement. He did charitable deeds either pleasing the persons in power, or forced by circumstances, or fishing for political capital for himself. Some basic historical facts narrated by Professor Xu are indefinite. His high appraisement for him is hardly convinced.
