摘　　要：学术自由是大学尤其是研究型大学的“性格” ,理所当然地要维护和弘扬。但是 ,随着经济的发展 ,尤其在知识经济年代 ,社会越来越要求大学体现服务功能。于是 ,在市场化和效益化的社会背景下 ,大学在发展过程中不可避免地产生了功利意识 。Academic freedom should be maintained and enhanced because it is an essential characteristic of universities, esp. the research-oriented ones. But, along with economic development, esp. in the age of knowledge economy, the society increasingly demands the service from universities, which unavoidably results in utilitarianism under the background of marketing and profiting. So, the tension between academic freedom and utilitarianism in Universities is formed.
