Study of the relation between lithofacies-paleogeography and groundwater quality indicates that the Early Cretaceous Ordos basin has experienced the cycles from the arid-semiarid climate to relatively humid climate and the stages of lithofacies-paleogeographic evolution characterized by the change from desert facies development to lake facies development. The climatic and paleogeographic conditions and their evolution led to the very complex regional distribution of the salinity of Cretaceous sedimentary water bodies, salinity of sedimentary rocks and conditions of groundwater circulation. Under the combined influences of lithofacies-paleogeographic conditions and other hydrogeological conditions, the Cretaceous groundwater quality and distribution in the basin are complex, generally showing a regional distribution pattern, that is, groundwater quality is better in the north than in the south and is good in the east and poor in the west and good in the lower part and poor in the upper part in the south of the basin.
