Objective: To study the characteristic of blood rheology in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and the significance of lowering blood viscosity treatment.Method: 78 patients with sustained ( n =38, more than 3 months) or paroxysmal ( n =40, less than 3 months) AF were selected, and blood rheology data were determined before and after oral administration of asprin 100 mg perday and venous transfusion extract of ginkgo biloba leaf 20 ml perday. Results: The data of blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, hematocrit, platelet adhesion rate and fibrinogen in patients with sustained AF are all significantly higher than in patients with paroxysmal AF; After oral administration of asprin and venous transfusion extract of ginkgo biloba leaf, the data in patients with sustained AF are all significantly lowered (compared with those before treatment, P <0.01), and the data in patients with paroxysmal AF are also significantly lowered( P <0.05). Conclusion: The patients with AF are easy to complicate blood hyperviscosity, especially in those with sustained AF. Oral administration of asprin and venous transfusion extract of ginkgo biloba leaf can steadily reduce the data of blood viscosity in patients with AF.
