摘　　要：本文先论析在特定的历史与现实情境下 ,“新加坡华文知识分子”的语义 ;再从历史发展的角度考察殖民地时代、独立建国时代和踏入二十一世纪后 ,新加坡华文知识分子的出身和特征 ,以及他们所扮演的角色如何从政治、教育和文化舞台上逐步退缩 。This paper first examines the meaning of the term, “Singapore Chinese intellectual' against the unique historical context and social realities of Singapore. It then proceeds to trace the background and particular traits of this group of intellectuals from the colonial period and the independent period right up to the 21 st century, with attention given to how they gradually retreat from their roles in the political, educational and cultural spheres as well as the potential evolvement of these roles in the future.
