摘　　要：该文对对称不稳定理论及其应用的现状进行了全面的评述。这里是该文的第一部分，主要讨论线性理论。这包括无界和有界大气中静力平衡和非静力平衡条件下的对称不稳定，二维粘性对称不稳定和湿大气的对称不稳定等问题。Thepresent paper has comprehensively reviewed the state of art of symmetricinstability theory and its application to mesoscale meteorology.Here is its part 1 whichrnainly deals with the linear theorv.It includes the svmmetric instability in the boundand boundless atmosphere under the condition of hvdrostatic and non-hvdrostaticequilibrium,the two-dimensional viscous svmmetric instabilitv and the svmmetricinstability in a moist atmosphere.
