Objective The goal of this study was to evaluate a new scoring method for infants with craniocerebral injuries: the Trauma Infant Neurologic Score (TINS), which was first presented at the International Neurologic Symposium in 1997 by M.D. Beni, Israel. According to Beni's data, TINS is a better tool for evaluation of infants Epidural Hematoma (EDH). In the present study, expanded the application range of TINS was expanded from EDH to all infancy craniocerebral injuries. Methods Retrospective analysis was performed to establish the TINS scores in 28 infants with craniocerebral injuries. The scores were then correlated to the clinical course, the therapeutic efficacy and the prognosis of the patients. As control, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores were obtained and assessed similarly. Results Compared to GCS, TINS correlated better with patients' clinical condition and prognosis. Conclusions TINS is an objective scoring method for infants with brain injury and should be adopted as a routine assessment.
