摘　　要：通过分析凯瑟琳·曼斯菲尔德的《已故上校的女儿们》,从该小说情节的淡化、细节的刻画及情绪的渲染、对时间的把握及心理的刻画、象征和暗示手法的应用等方面揭示作者独特的写作艺术,并从作者对家庭、婚姻、家乡的情感角度解读其内容。Katherine Mansfield is essentially a short-story writer.Some critics commented on Katherine Mansfield's The Daughters of the Late Colonel for its loose structure and remarked that it is no more than strokes of details put together without proper refinement. The paper sets out to appreciate her ability to distill an atmosphere by the symbolic use of objects,her ability to manipulate time and to work through suggestion rather than explicit development.Also,the paper takes the initiative to elicit the implication of The Daughters of the Late Colonel by virtue of an insight into her contradictory emotion for her family,for marriage and for her hometown.
