摘　　要：The Chinese Archaeology: Xia and Shang is a work with high academic value. It has reached the scientificalness, objectivity and creativity in the genuine sense that are necessary for an academic monograph. It is to be hoped that researches into the Xia culture and studies of the Erlitou culture should be carried out by completely and exactly grasping the whole course of the Erlitou culture's birth, development and fall. The sites of this culture so far recorded represent only a certain stage of the Xia Dynasty, so more attention should be paid to inquiry into the culture's origin and the Xia survivals' culture. The mid Shang culture as dealt with in the book is actually composed of two sections brought from the Zhengzhou Erligang culture and the Anyang Yinxu culture respectively.
