Objective To observe the influence of electromagnetic irradiation on mRNA and protein expression of MAPKs families in the hippocampus neuron of rats. Methods The rats were acute exposed to 65mW/cm2 electromagnetic wave 20min.The mRNA expressions of extracellular signal-regulated 1(ERK1),c-Jun N-terminal kinase1(JNK1),P38 MAPK were tested by RT-PCR.The protein expressions of ERK1,JNK1,P38 MAPK were tested by Western-blot.Results Ater electromagnetic irradiation, the mRNA and protein expressions of ERK1 and JNK1 increased significantly in the rat hippocampus. The high expression of ERK1 lasted 12 hours. But JNK1 expressed highly only for 3 hours.AT 24 hours after irradiation, the expression of ERK1 and JNK1 decreased below to the level of control. The mRNA and protein expressions of P38 MAPK didn't change obviously. Conclusion The electromagnetic irradiation can influence ERK and JNK signal transduction in gene transcription and protein expression. But it has no influences on P38 MAPK signal transduction. The ERK and JNK signal transduction may play an important role in the center nerve system induced by electromagnetic irradiation.
