摘 要:This paper tries to analyze the relationship between the transcendental nature of the traditional Buddhism and the humanistic nature of the Humanistic Buddhism which has been advocated and appreciated by religious, academic and political circles, and shows that the transcendental nature is the most essential feature of Buddhism and the very basis on which the theoretical and practical systems of Buddhism are established. Indeed, the transcendental nature inherent in Buddhism is not only perfectly unified with the humanistic nature of the Humanistic Buddhism, but also serves as its foundation, so the Humanistic Buddhism’s repulsion of the transcendence would gradually erode Buddhism’s intrinsic sacredness, and then, would diminish the fascination of Buddhism in modern society.
