解读《红字》中齐灵渥斯和丁梅斯代尔的自私性

摘　　要：在《红字》中霍桑揭示了清教统治下，夫权、教权占主导地位的社会里，男性的极端自私性，并以自私性作为隐性框架构筑了一系列情节，明确指出了齐灵渥斯和丁梅斯代尔的自私性是他们一切错误行为的根源，是他们自身命运悲剧的导火线．是咎由自取，自食其果。同时，他们的自私还导致了海丝特及珠儿命运的凄苦与悲惨。In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne reveals the men′s extreme egomania in the Puritan society dominated by the authorities of husband and religion, and a series of plots are formed on this basis, which is used as a recessive frame of the whole book. Roger Chillingworth's and Arthur Dimmesdale's egomania is the source of their wrong deeds, and they reaped what they had sown, moreover, it also results in Hester′s and Pearl′s misery.
