Observation on behaviors of 16 (5 males, 11 females) adult Great Bustards( Otis tarda) that were kept in different environment was conducted in 3 breeding seasons (April - June) of 2002 to 2004 in Harbin Zoo. In breeding seasons of 2002 and 2003 the birds were kept in a blocked cage of 12 m × 4 m × 2 m at a quiet, not disturbed environment. They were moved to an unblocked cage of 5.4 m × 5.4 m × 2 m at a noise environment in breeding season of 2004. Scan method was used to collect data, behaviors of resting, preening, swanking, wandering, feeding and watching of each birds was recorded every 5 min from 600 to 1 800 h during study period. Nonparametric test ( Ztest) was employed to check whether the keeping environment difference would influence the behavior of those birds. The results showed that there was not any significant difference in behaviors for those birds between breeding seasons of 2002 and 2003 ( P 〉 0.05 ). However, significant difference was found for male's behaviors between breeding seasons of 2002 and 2004 ( P 〈 0.01 ) , as well as 2003 and 2004 ( P 〈 0.01 ) ; but no difference in behaviors was detected for females between the 3 breeding seasons. Males dept in smaller cage at noise environment spent more time in watching than those in a large cage at quiet environment (P 〈 0.01).
