Benthic fluxes and pore water compositions of silicate, nitrate and phosphate were investigated for surface sediments of the abyssal equatorial northeastern Pacific during three cruises (1999-2003). The profile distributions of silicate, phosphate and nitrate suggest that the organic material decomposition in area is mainly through nitrification during early diagenesis. Based on benthic fluxes of nutrients calculated using Fick's first law, benthic fluxes of silicate, phosphate and nitrate are -886. 45- 42.62μmol/(m^2·d), -3.04-5.83μmol/ (m^2·d) and -189.43-21.05 μmol/(m^2·d), respectively, and perhaps silicate and nitrate are one of the major sources of nutrients for bottom water. Our results also reveal temporal and spatial variations of benthic fluxes for silicate, phosphate and nitrate, which may be related to sedimentation environment changes caused by global climatologic change.
