Objective To investigate the changes of the plasma cholecystokinin (CCK) level in type 2 diabetic patients (T2DM) and their firstdegree relatives (FDRs) and analyze related factors. Methods Three groups were studied, health control group, FDRs group and T2DM group. The body weight, fasting blood sugar, fasting insulin and CCK of those subjects were measured. The change of CCK was compared between each group, and the relationship with BMI was analyzed. Results Age and sex of each group were matching. There was a step - up trend of glucose and BMI in control, FDRs and T2DM groups, but there was statistical difference only between T2DM and control (P 〈 0. 05 ). CCK and insulin in control, FDRs and T2DM groups increased gradually (all P 〈0. 01 ). Based on BMI = 25 kg/m^2, CCK and insulin of the subjects BMI 〉 25 kg/m^2 of FDRs and T2DM groups were significantly higher than those of the subjects BMI 〈25 kg/m^2 of the same group. Conclusion The plasma cholecystokinin levels increase significantly in T2DM and FDRs, and the change was similar to the change of insulin. Obesity may be related to the changes of CCK and insulin.
