摘　　要：Zygmunt Bauman is one of the most renowned contemporary social theorists and the world’s foremost sociologist of postmodernity. Bauman’s works cover many subject areas, including sociology, philosophy, cultural studies and political sciences. This paper attempts to discuss his social theories through the recursive central themes in the multitude of his works, rather than make a general introduction to his works or give some general comments. The author has discovered that culture and power, freedom and safety, strangers and social order, and tourists and vagabonds are the core themes in Bauman’s works. In order to accurately understand of these themes, we have to know Bauman’s views on modernity and postmodernity because he wrote from these perspectives.Zygmunt Bauman is one of the most renowned contemporary social theorists and the world＇ s foremost sociologist of postmodernity.
