The influence of complex amino acid mixture containing methionine (AA 0 and without methionine (AA2) on the growth of reticulum cell sarcoma L2 in mice was studied. In 4 experiments, amino acid mixtures were administered intraperitoneally. The average tumor weight in mice of AA2 group was 61, 70,71 and 68% of the tumor weight in mice of AA1 group, respectively. In the experiments, where AA1 and AA2 were administered by drinking a ad Libidum, the results were similar to those in the intraperitoneal use groups. The influence of methionine on the antitumor activity of DDP or ADM were studied, in vitro and in vivo. In the microculture of HeLa cells, it was shown that methionine added into normal culture medium decreased markedly the inhibition rate of DDP on the growth of HeLa cells. It was demonstrated also that methionine could reduce the antitumor activity of ADM in mice. The inhibition rate of ADM on L2 tumor in mice was reduced from 59, 51 and 43% to 19, 28 and 17%, respectively. The differences were significant statistically. The results suggested that it is reasonable to avoid the use of complex amino acid mixture containing methionine in cancer patients, especially not in combination with DDP or ADM in order not to affect the therapeutic effect of the antitumor agents.
