Objective: To explore the feasibility of reconstructing the adult pelvic arteriovenous system by the use of multi-slice spiral CT(MSCT) and study the morphology of human pelvic blood vessels, and find out the general distribution of the above vessels. Methods: After contrast administration through median cubital vein at an injection of 3.5ml/s, sixteen adults underwent contrast-enhanced CT angiography of pelvic utilizing a 16-row multi-slice spiral CT. Images were collected and dealt with the technique of shaded volume reconstruction (SVR) and maximum intensity projection (MIP), and were reconstructed into 3D-graph in order to screen arteries and veins and their branches or tributaries, Results: All subjects showed the 3rd and 4th level vessels, and arteries showed clearly at the average visualization time of 30 s. Both arteries and veins were showed during the 90-130s, and the veins showed clearly at 130s. For the contrast entering in soft tissue, veins showed with a vague margin but relatively independent after 230s. Conclusions: Multi-slice spiral CT will be a useful method to perform the anatomic structures of pelvic blood vessel. With the upgrade of software, it will be possible to distinguish arteries and veins of pelvic cavity more clearly and exactly. This method is significant for treating pelvic blood vessel disease in future.
