摘　　要：《一个青年艺术家的肖像》是爱尔兰著名作家詹姆斯.乔伊斯的代表作。作为二十世纪初现代主义文学倾向的代表人物,乔伊斯在其代表作中大胆突破传统,以时间、意识和技巧为其创作中心,利用各种现代创作技巧展示主人公斯蒂芬的现代精神气质,并从新的视角阐释了技巧的应用在主题阐述中的作用。本文旨在从小说整体布局的构建和小说创作形式与小说内容的相关性来探讨作品中表现手法与主题的关系。A Portrait of An Artist as a Young Man is the masterwork of the distinguished Irish writer, James Joyce. As a representative of the literary trend-modernism at the early 20th century, Joyce challenged the convention and focused on time, consciousness and writing techniques in his work . Making use of various kinds of modern creative techniques, Joyce not only revealed the contemporary qualities of the protagonist, Stephen Dedalus,but also elaborated the functions of the writing skills on the theme in a new perspective. In this essay, overall arrangement and skills used to portray the characters are studied to show the relationship of the writing techniques and the presentation of the theme.
