摘　　要：“退婴”本为汉语固有之词,却误认为日源外来词;原为“退缩、保守”之义,却误解为“像婴儿一样柔弱无争”。揭示“退婴”在中日语言中的源流本末,从一侧面说明中日语言比较研究对于辞书编纂、汉语史研究、中日文化交流史研究的重要价值和意义。The paper intends to clarify several notions on the phrase of Tuiying（退婴）. The phrase is originated from Chinese, but mis-presented as a Japanese loan; Its original sense ＇cowering, Conservative＇ also gave way to a misinterpretation ＇as weak as an infant. This confusion over phrasal origins between Chinese and Japanese indicates the great significance of contrastive studies to dictionary compiling, research on the history of the Chinese language and on the history of cultural exchange between the two nations.
