On Saussure's and Sapir's Viewpoints on Language

摘　　要：索绪尔和萨丕尔这两位著名的结构主义语言学家,由于所处的历史时代和背景相同,在对语言的看法、研究途径、研究重点等方面也有很多相似之处,但其侧重点和贡献却也有所不同。将两位语言学家在语言研究的若干方面作一比较,有助于加深对他们理论体系的理解。Being two outstanding stmcturalists, Ferdinand de Saussure and Edward Sapir share so many similarities in their viewpoints on language, their research approaches, and aspects in which they spare so much effort. Based on all these, this paper makes a brief comparison of comments made by the two linguists in such aspects as definition of language, interpretation of coaanunication, linguistic relativity, and so on, in the hope to make their theories better understood.
