摘　　要：英语连词and在语义上相当于逻辑算子&,在言语交际中,它具有丰富的语用功能,主要在两个方面对话语的关联性实施语用制约,以寻求认知效果和推理努力的最佳平衡,从而取得最佳的话语关联。在显义层面,对推导话语所表征的语义信息直接进行制约;在隐义层面,它能影响话语理解时的语境构建。The English conjunction ＂and＂ is semantically equal to the logical operator ＂＆＂. But it has rich pragmatic functions in verbal communication in that it may exert pragmatic constraints on the relevance of an utterance in two aspects to achieve the balance between the cognitive effects and inferential efforts in the pursuit of optimal relevance, Explicitly it directly constrains the inference of the semantic information of an utterance and implicitly it affects the construction of proper contexts in utterance interpretation.
