摘　　要：路面电车在日本有着悠久的历史。日本最早的路面电车是1895年京都电气铁道株式会社建设的由京都站至伏见站一段的路面机车，而后随着明治天皇移宫至东京。日本的城市发展与经济重心也发生了转移，于1903年东京的品川至新桥一段也开通了路面机车，当时全程仅长56km，到1932年日本全国有67个城市开通了路面电车，总里程为1500km，达到了日本路面电车史的顶盛时期，成为当时最重要的城市轨道交通工具。Streetcars have a quite long history in Japan. The first streetcar appeared in Japan in 1895 which was constructed by Kyoto Electric Railway Co., Ltd from Kyoto StOlon to Fushimi Staion. By the end of last century, Japanese government initiated to build humanity cities in the country. All of the cities started to Icok for an efficient and environment-friendly urban public transport mode. Then Japan acUvaly introduced streetcars and LRT urban transport system. 19 cities in Japan are utilizing streetcars with a total iength of 238 kilomaters by 2004. And the routes of streetcars are mainly sightseeing spots and commercial districts in these cities.
