The use of modern electronic systems has made it possible to develop a transmission concept which was previously impossible due to the immense number of procedures requiring adaptation to each other. To clarify questions regarding both the ability to master control systems and the resultant shift comfort level, a prototype was developed based on a production automatic transmission.Using theoretical analyses and simulation results, a new type of powershift procedure was developed. This procedure could be extended to include range-change powershift (RCPS). The procedure underwent functon tests both on test rigs and in test drives under all operating conditions. Subjective impressions gained during trial runs were,without excepton, positive. The possibility of using this concept for other vehicle categories is currently being
