This paper reviews the fact and process of the Chinese fiction introduced into Japan and accepted by Japanese, and puts forward the kemel viewpoints: the "prematurity" of Japanese fiction were brought about by the imported Chinese fiction which accumulated abundant experience in narration. Chinese fiction introduced into Japan in variant historical periods promoted the innovation of Japanese fiction style and generated an interesting phenomenon that the Japanese fiction of one period always corresponded the Chinese fiction in the previous period. We believe that fan' an fiction and Chinese-character fiction written by Japanese should be considered as a constitutional part of Japanese fiction. It deserves praise that Japanese fiction had learned foreign culture while insisted on its national features.
