Objective.To study the effects of platelet factor 4 (PF4) on the immune function of the radiation injury mice. Methods: BALB/c male mice were randomly divided into three groups: exposure group, protection group with PF4 and control group. The mice of protection group were injected PF4 (40 μg/kg) into abdominal cavity at 26 h and 20 h before irradiation of 5 Gy^60Co -γ ray. The percentage of lymphocytes in peripheral blood was counted by Wright's staining. After counting the total cells of thymus and spleen, the cellular proliferation ability of thymus and spleen was determined by MTI' colorimetry. Results: The falling trendency of the peripheral blood lymphocytes in protection group was obviously slower than that in exposure group. The total cells of thymus and spleen in protection group was much more than that in exposure group. Comparing the cellular proliferation ability of thymus and spleen between protection group and exposure group, the former was better than the latter. Conclusion: PF4 has obvious protective effects on the immune system and can strengthen the immune function of the radiation injury mice.
