摘　　要：诚信在人类社会中一直发挥着极为重要的作用。探究诚信的内涵,具有重大的理论和现实意义。考察中外传统诚信观,确认诚信是一种以诚实守信为根本要求的伦理观念,是一种“德”“得”相通的社会行为,是一种融道德与法律为一体的制度规范,具有普适性、二重性、开放性和民族性的特征。Honesty has always been playing an important role in our human society. It is hence of great theoretical and practical significance to make a probe into its essence and connotative meaning. With an examination on the traditional sense of honesty home and abroad, the author makes a confirmation that honesty is not only an ethical concept based on sincerity and trustworthiness, but also a social behavior connecting ＂ethics＂ and ＂ gains＂, and a norm and system integrating the functions of both ethics and laws. Apart from these, honesty is also characteristic of the following four properties, ie, universal adaptability, duality, openness and nationality.
