摘　　要：源自西方的现代性传统以显著的方式影响了邓小平的理论旨趣。在现代性观念谱系的选择中,邓小平重新评估了现代性民主与法制观念的进步意义。对以理性为支柱的现代性科学精神的重新弘扬,确立了邓小平“科学技术是第一生产力”的著名论断。社会主义市场经济理论的提出,是邓小平理论向现代性传统回瞻的必然。The three spiritual traditions handed down from the May 4^th Movement constitute the important thinking sources of Deng Xiaoping Theory. The tradition of modernity stemming from the West has a great influence upon Deng＇s ideology. In consideration of the experience and lessons from the Stalin System, Deng Xiaoping revalues the progressive significance of the ideas such as democracy and legality with his choice of the modernity system of concepts. Reestablishing the scientific spirit of modernity with rationality as its value at the core, Deng Xiaoping puts forward the famous slogan articulated as ＂science and technology is the first productive force＂. The establishment of socialist market economy is the necessary consequence of Deng Xioaping ＂s review upon the western tradition of modernity.
