To date, 50 Orthopteran fossils have been found from 14 provinces in China, among which 38 genera including 48 species were published. In this paper, a checklist table of described Chinese Orthopteran fossils, with their distribution and age, is provided. The study on fossil Orthoptera is of great importance for the further progress in the proper understanding of the origin of Orthoptera, the coevolution between insects and plants, the changes of paleoclimate, etc. Unfortunately, the research on Orthopteran fossils in China is still in rather chaotic state and badly needs revision. Chinese Orthopteran fossils are mainly found in Liaoning, Hebei and Inner Mongolia; and most of them are from Mesozoic.Whereas, the reason for all this imbalance in distribution is not quite clear now and still need further studying. Many of the previously recovered Orthopteran fossils from China were not complete and in most cases only fragment of wings or parts of body were preserved. Hence, initially established taxa that based on those fragmentary fossils are problematic. Another notable problem is the absence of a universally adopted authentic system for classification. Besides the alpha classification, studies on the coevolution between Orthoptera and plants, using fossil Orthoptera as pointer to changes of paleoclimate, etc. are all important and nearly unexplored, to which we should pay more attention in our future work.
