摘　　要：人们普遍认为英国大学是自治的,这种自治除了历史传统等的作用外,也有其理论基础。文章对英国大学自治的理论基础进行探讨,从国家与大学的关系模式来看,英国大学自治来源于盎格鲁—萨克森模式。以弗雷泽的自治标准和罗宾斯报告的回答来看,英国大学的自治确实令同行羡慕。自20世纪70年代末开始,由于新公共管理主义和撒切尔主义的影响,英国大学自治表现出新的特点。People generally think the English university is autonomous, and this kind of autonomy has its rationale besides historical tradition and so on. This article carries on a discussion of rationale for the English university autonomy. From the nation-university rehtion pattern, English university autonomy comes from the Anglo-Saxon pattern. By Frazer＇s autonomous standard and Robbirs＇ report, the English university autonomy truly was envied by colleagues. From the end of 1970s, the English university autonomy displays new characteristics because of the new public management principle and the Thatcher principle.
